Fish Movements and New Fish Stock - March 2007

Netting the Top Pond Netting the Top Pond New fish for Top Pond New fish for Top Pond

A major stocking effort completed last weekend that will make sport even bigger and better at Magiscroft.  It started with the first ever big movement of fish from the Top Pond.  A netting party did a great job in collecting nearly 1,400lb of mainly Carp, Ide, Orfe & Chub, with an assortment of other species. Plenty of fish managed to avoid the net leaving lots of decent sized fish still in the Top Pond !

Over 800lb of the netted fish were moved into the new Birch Pond that will be opened later in the year.  The remainder of the fish, over 500lb, were moved into the Railway Pond and have already made a huge improvement in the fishing there.

The final piece of the Jigsaw was the replacement of the fish moved from the Top Pond with 5,000 new fish, almost totalling the same weight of fish, but many more in number.  F1 Carp from 3oz to 8oz, Mirror Carp from 3oz to 4 oz and Chub from 3oz to 4oz, are already feeding ravenously and giving some hectic fishing.  They will grow fast and will be ideal for kids and newcomers to coarse fishing.

Thanks to Chris Hughes, Paul Vernel, Dave Richardson, Jim Hillhouse, James Woodrow, Kevin Murphy and everyone else who lent a hand.  Special thanks again to Jason from Riverfield Fish Farm and all who helped carry the buckets !
