Match Report:

Nineteen anglers fished today's match with just one absentee which had the effect of forcing 3 anglers in the match over into Siberia (Far Bank) If a phone-call had been made we would have all fitted onto the Cafe Bank. This resulted in three anglers sitting in the shaded cold side of the Main Loch whilst Frank Smith was complaining about the sunburn he got on his face. Prior to the Draw 3 anglers stated that they would be over the far side, they were myself Tommy Lauriston, Bryan Hewitt and David Joseph. David got a Brucie Bonus in the fact that he got to sit in the sunshine with the downside being that he didn't get a bite all day. It was a bonus Davis I can assure you as your fellow doom and gloom at the draw compatriots Tommy and Bryan never got a bite and were sat freezing their balls off whilst watching Frank Smith across from them sacking all day. As for A section Tommy and Bryan were in good company as Barry Lindsay and Mark Lyons didn't get a bite either and there are two rated anglers. Mark was that confident that he wouldn't get a bite he packed up with 15minutes to go. There was method in his madness as he fished Frank Smiths Peg after the match. Stuart McIlvanney caught a Carp on the feeder 30mins into the match and led the section most of the day. A word of advice to Stuart don't stand up on your peg when fishing close in as your skylinning your peg. A seated approach may have brought more fish. Never say die John Baird Jnr making his 2017 debut kept on plugging away and with around 2 hours to go worked out how to catch the roach with a small piece of worm on the hook. He won the section with 2Lbs-10ozs all roach and every one netted. Great effort John.

Section B was a one man show with Frank Smith catching 25 Carp on the Feeder prior to spending the second half of the match on the Pole when it was a fish a chuck. Frank put a second net in with 2 hours to go. That action just rubbed in their plight to those fishing Siberia. Frank weighed in 50 Carp for 66Lbs-3ozs for Section and Overall Match win.. He hooked into a monster on the pole which headed direct over to Siberia and when the elastic bottomed the Carp just kept going. In Section B Barry Morgan had a plan and stuck to it. He caught well on the bomb and just waited for the bites. He weighed 25Lbs-2ozs which took second overall in the match. Young Eamonn caught a few on the pole and you could see his frustration as for every fish he caught Frank put 10 in his net before he got another. Eammon weighed 6Lbs-9ozs and took a clear 3rd in the match. Dougie Campbell got of to a good start on his feeder with a fish in his net in 10mins. That was his day, he then sat back with face looking towards the Sun enjoying the Rays.

That leaves Section C where the anglers who caught just had one or two fish. Craig Duncan was a clear winner with 3Lbs-7ozs. Anyone catching a fish right up to the end could have taken the Section. Darrin Ferguson started to line up skimmers and made a schoolboy error topping up his feed and they bolted. Chance you have to take.

It was good to see a match on the Main Loch again. Perhaps it came too early as the Carp appeared to be balled up. Ronnie's theory is that Eamonn fished Peg 6 in practice Saturday and put in a lot of feed near the end which the fish have found and were happy to stay there. Ian Whitson from his peg saw fish topping over in Siberia neat the bank. He cast a feeder over after the all out resulting in a quick bite which produced a 7Lbs Carp.

Well done to all who turned out to fish on the day and well done to the Top Three and Section winners. The Main Loch will make a comeback. The bonus is that the Carp will feed for an extra month as the volume of water cools down a lot slower than the ponds.

Tommy Lauriston.
