With the water being so clear in the canal, I don't think any Goldfish would live too long with the amount of pike the canal has.
The goldfish which were originally released will have spawned many, many times but unfortunately their offspring will be very difficult to spot as the pigmentation of the parent stock would eventually be lost.
The common goldfish is closely related to the crucian carp (Carassius auratus) and will breed successfully in the wild but after one or two generations, the ultimate offspring will be totally devoid
of gold colouration and will more closely resemble a crucian.
Over the years, goldfish have successfully reproduced in my garden pond and even the first spawning
resulted in brown crucian-type offspring.
