With the water being so clear in the canal, I don't think any Goldfish would live too long with the amount of pike the canal has.

The goldfish which were originally released will have spawned many, many times but unfortunately their offspring will be very difficult to spot as the pigmentation of the parent stock would eventually be lost.
The common goldfish is closely related to the crucian carp (Carassius auratus) and will breed successfully in the wild but after one or two generations, the ultimate offspring will be totally devoid
of gold colouration and will more closely resemble a crucian.
Over the years, goldfish have successfully reproduced in my garden pond and even the first spawning
resulted in brown crucian-type offspring.

Thanks for clearing that up Bryan. I wouldn't mind a couple of them, just to say I've had some. More species to add to the list.

Hi sorry to dig up an old post especially with it being my first.

I actually found this forum when looking for info on the famous Clydebank goldies (although I have fished Magiscroft a handfull of times). I've heard from a few people now (including a guy that lives just near where Singers was) that there are still some big old brown goldies still lurking in the canal. He also said they hade come from the concrete pools though the explaination bryanh posted obviously seems to be the truth.

So anyone fished it lately or plan to do so? I think theres a possibility there are still a few in there and hope to fish it at some point before summers out.
