magiscroft fishing reports @ 12 april 2004

Pleasure anglers are making the most of the fine Easter weather.  This has really boosted the fishing particularly on the Island Pond where lots of 20lb, 30lb and even 50lb catches of carp are being taken.  Ask Ronnie in the shop and he will give you the latest info and hopefully point you in the direction of the most productive areas.

Island Pond

Some fantastic fishing over the last week. On Tuesday Mr McMillan had an estimated 50lb of carp from the far end and Brian Docherty & John Elder had mixed bags well over 20lb.
Mick Ezard took the biggest fish of the week with a beautiful 4lb Ghost Carp that took him 20 minutes to land on a small hook and size 4 elastic!

On Wednesday Chris Hughes estimated around 40lb including 3 carp over 3lb and lots of big F1s to 2lb all taken on sweetcorn from a peg far down the right side. Again today Brian Docherty & John Elder (the most consistently successful pair on the pond) had between 20 & 30lb.

Joe Molloy has also been catching well with carp and tench on every visit (sh***y shoes to his friends) again doing consistently well with his 'short-rod' method.

Jelly Pellets are very successful just now but sweetcorn and worms are starting to pay off when the carp have seen a few too many pellets.  Lots of small tench are also showing along with lots of ide approching the 1lb mark.

Top Pond

Pumping some fresh water through on Sunday has transformed sport which was flat on Saturday.  Now everyone is catching lots of the newly stocked carp and if you fish it right you will catch one every cast.  F1 carp are the bigger fish, between  12oz and over 1lb.  The biggest carp recently was 2lb 14oz.

Pinkies & maggots are still good but pellets and sweetcorn are working well now and picking out the better fish.

Main Loch

As the water gradually warms up, the pole is starting to catch more fish as the fish come closer and up in the water. Feeder and slider tactics still produce consistently well though.  The pegs in front of the cafe down to the tree are still most popular and successful in matches but pleasure anglers are taking good catches all over.

Skimmer bream are showing up much more in catches with the odd bigger bream to over 2lb.  Maggot is still the most successful bait for bream and carp. Be ready for some of the bigger carp to 3lb, most are getting lost at the moment!
