Main Loch
Getting back to it's best as temperatures rise and
the new stock fish spark the others to feed. Fish are moving
into shallower pegs and up in the water too. 8ft is an ideal
depth of water to find but the fish will happily come off the bottom
and can also be caught by fishing shallow, with maggot still the No1
bait.
Chris Paton's 17lb 12oz match win on Sunday shows
the Ide potential, with Skimmers in the backing weights too. On
Monday Jim Gourlay had a cracking day with an estimated 20-25lb of
quality Roach to 10oz taken mainly on double maggot and corn from a
peg to the left of the jetties on the far side. Roach are
showing in much better numbers and sizes. Peg 50 in the corner
has drawn anglers like a magnet to good catches of skimmers and carp.
Island Pond
F1 carp are feeding strongly this week backed by
lots of fish of all different species, especially Ide. John Callaghan
had an excellent catch estimated over 40lb at the far end on Sunday.
He had 2 3lb Tench and many decent sized carp up to 3lb mainly on
pellet.
Jim Hillhouse had an amazing day when he couldn't get any carp but
was delighted to catch around 35lb of superb quality Ide and Orfe to
over 1lb. Stalwarts Brian Docherty and John Elder have been at
it again, regularly enjoying great catches to over 30lb.
Pellets are important for the carp and Jelly Pellets
are very successful and easy to use too. Maggot,
sweetcorn and worms can pay off when the carp have seen a
few too many pellets.
Top Pond
Still 'Fishing it's head off' for both common and F1 carp.
If you get it right you can catch one every cast. F1 carp are the bigger fish,
between 12oz and over 1lb. The biggest carp recently was
2lb 14oz. Pellets now catching best with maggots and sweetcorn are
as backup baits.
