Great fishing on all waters now. As a new fishery you would expect catches to steadily improve and that 's exactly what is happening leading to some spectacular fishing ... for Scotland! Brian Lynn's 72lb catch on the Main Loch and Darren Ferguson's 3 hour match record touching 30lb are prime examples. Tench have started to show well now and many people are reporting their biggest fish is not a carp but Tench to 5lb+ from Island Pond and the Main Loch. The Main Loch has continued to improve and more and more people who habitually fished the Carp ponds are trying the Main Loch for the first time, enjoying the change and variety of fishing. The Island and Top ponds are still fishing brilliantly, with 20lb catches commonplace and some reports of estimated bags up to 50lb including carp over 4lb. Many people are commenting on their new 'personal best', either as a total or individual specimens, and that's great to see.

Main LochBrian Lynn fished one of the jetty pegs on the far side and after 5 1/2 hours weighed in over 72lb ... the biggest catch yet at Magiscroft. He started catching a variety of fish, mainly skimmers, then took mainly small carp in a fantastic session. The end near the Island Pond has been fishing particularly well for big weights with up to 30lb catches happening more and more. Pegs 26-29 at the other end have been cleared of much of the weed and are also producing great catches of Carp, Bream and Ide with more and more Roach showing too. Quite a few nice Tench to over 3lb are being caught. Skimmer Bream are the other main attraction at the moment as well as the carp. The Skimmers & Ide can rise high in the water at times and can be taken as shallow as 2ft deep. Maggot and pinkie are No.1 bait for silver fish but many people are fishing for carp just past the margins using pellets and worms too. Island PondDarren Ferguson breaking the match record, in only 3 hours is an example of how well the pond is fishing. Ide are growing big and many are bigger than 12oz and nearing 1lb. Caster and worm are No.1 baits for the Ide and you can feed a lot to catch a lot. Carp are also feeding well and the fact that some of the ghost carp are well over 4lb and the F1s are going over 3lb shows why pleasure catches have been estimated up to 50lb. Tench are thriving and among the small ones are some of their bigger brothers to over 5lb. Pellets are important for the Carp and Jelly Pellets are very successful and easy to use too. Maggot, sweetcorn and worms can pay off when the Carp have seen a few too many pellets. Top PondGreat fishing for mainly F1 Carp which are growing fast with more fish topping the 1lb mark. If you get it right you can catch one every cast. David Anderson included a 3lb Mirror Carp in his catch that won the last junior competition. Pellets now catching best with maggots and sweetcorn are as backup baits. Previous Reports |
