magiscroft fishing reports @ 18 October 2004

Autumn is well and truly here but catches are holding up well in spite of the colder conditions.  The fishing is changing with the weather so methods are changing and it can pay to be in the right place at the right time.  Check with Ronnie in the shop and he will give you the latest day by day update.

Main Loch

Carp have been the most consistent fish over the last few weeks with plenty of F1s and commons up to 3lb. Fish are dropping down into deeper water so the swimfeeder is starting to work well particularly in the morning before the water warms up.  Maggot is a good bait on groundbait feeder or pole when the fish often move in later in the day.

Pole anglers are mixing leam with fishmeal groundbait to fish on the bottom in 12-16 ft of water with carp responding well.  See Mark Lyons match winning catch as an example of the kind of double figure catches pleasure anglers are taking.

Island Pond

The huge pleasure catches of the summer are not so common now, though Stuart Blakemore disproved that with well over 40lb on Jelly Pellets over micro pellets last week.  Bigger fish are being taken though with carp up to 6lb and Tench over 5lb.

Pellet is still good for catches of Carp and Tench.  Ide are still plentiful and maggot is working well with worm not quite so effective as before.

Top Pond

Still fishing very well and giving lots of bites for everybody, but in the colder weather hitting bites can become more tricky! Pellet still the best bait but maggot is becoming the no.1 alternative.
