Sping is officially here! With warmer and longer days the
fishing is improving on all waters now. Though the weather can
be changeable and affect the sport, some great catches are being taken
on the Carp ponds and the Main Loch is showing encouraging
signs. It's still important to judge the conditions before you
decide where and how to fish so Check with Ronnie in
the shop and he will give you all the latest info and advice.

Island PondFishing has been excellent in the last two weeks and anglers who fish well are consistently getting great catches. Double figure bags are the norm and catches between 30 and 50 lb are common. Mr Hughes has had some super days recently topped by a catch on Sunday estimated around 70lb including 35 Carp. Pellet and Corn are working well for Carp now with individual fish to 4 1/2lb. Tench are also feeding well the best recently being the 4 1/2lb Golden Tench caught by Sinclair Yates last week, a spectacular fish. Chopped Worm is a good bait to pick out the Tench and is also good for Ide. Good catches of big Ide to over 1lb are also happening. Maggot is still good though Caster will become more important soon and Worm is taking plenty of Ide too. Top PondWarm weather has really switched the Carp on and the pond is 'fishing it's head off'! Many people are catching a Carp every cast with F1s up to 1lb feeding ravenously. Pellet is by far the best bait for Carp but Maggot is also good and will catch the Ide and Orfe too. Main LochBecause of the deeper water the Main Loch usually takes around 3 weeks longer than the Carp pond to warm up in the Spring. This means that we are in a transition period from Winter to Spring and the fish can be unsettled. So one day can see nice catches like Chris Hughes 25lb of Carp and Skimmers last Saturday including fish to 1lb, then the next day the fish can seem to switch off completely. The fish appear to be up and down and difficult to predict. My mid April things should improve considerably. Feeder is still catching along with the Slider in deeper water but on warmer days the fish are inclined to rise up in the water and have been caught as shallow as 4ft deep and less. The pole will become more and more successful in the coming weeks. Previous Reports |
