All waters now fishing at their summer best with some great fishing and big catches over the last few weeks. The ponds and the Main Loch are producing well now with bags up to 100lb on the Island Pond the Main Loch. In very hot weather the fishing can be best early and late with a lull in the early afternoon, as always, it's worth a check with Ronnie in the shop for the best advice on where to go and how to fish.

Main Loch

Fishing is the best it's ever been with lots of big catches over 50lb being taken all over the loch.  Carp are dominating catches and the number of bigger carp, over 3lb with many fish over 5lb, is exciting, giving anglers plenty of fighting action.  Paul Joyce had a great day last Thursday with a catch weighed at well over 100lb made up of good sized Carp all taken on paste.  Gary McKay had a similar day with a catch estimated at well over 80lb including a beautiful Carp of 11lb. 

With the hot weather the fish have come up in the water and can often be caught very close in. Typical summer Carp baits like sweetcorn, pellets and worms are working well.  Some anglers are targetting the bigger Carp on paste baits now.  When the weather is hot look for 6ft or less of depth, but when it cools slightly the fish can often be best found at 8/9ft deep.

Island Pond

Fishing brilliantly for all species with some pleasure anglers reporting that they have caught good sized fish all day and their total catches would probably add up to over 100lb. Carp are now feeding aggressively and big Tench to 5lb are often showing in catches.   Gerry Nicholls was delighted with a super day when his big catch included 9 big Ghost Carp with three 5lb fish and one at 8lb. 

  Ide are also showing well and they have obviously been growing fast with many fish well over 1lb.  Carp of well over 6lb are getting caught daily.  Corn and Pellets are working well now for Carp though Worm is still successful too. 

Top Pond

Top Pond is fishing really well now with new 'stockie' Carp livening up catches and Carp up to 2 1/2 lb showing up.  Orfe are also feeding well with catches over 20lb solely of Blue Orfe !

Maggot and Pinkie are baits that are working well but the Carp will still take Corn and Pellet pellet is starting to work better.
