Magiscroft Fishing Reports @ 6 July 2007

After a hot early June, weather has been unseasonally cool and wet.  Catches have still been good   on all waters with big bags being caught at times but conditions have changed some of the methods that are working best. Carp continue to be the main fish giving big catches with  occasional fish up to 11lb meaning it's time to step up your tackle for the fight ! 100lb pleasure catches are still being reported from Main Loch and Island Pond. For the best advice on where to go and how to fish check with Ronnie in the shop.

Main Loch

The Main Loch improvement has definitely made a big difference with great fishing to be had all around the loch and not just in certain areas. Carp are definitely dominating the bigger catches with big F1s to over 3lb and a variety of commons and mirrors up to 11lb.

Paste still works well at times but is less effective than in recent months, with warm weather Carp are rising high in the water and shallow waggler fishing is working really well now.  Splashing wagglers have been very effective but when fish shy away from that a normal fine waggler can help you to carry on catching. Chris Hughes had a nice catch of 77lb on Thursday on the waggler.

Skimmers to 1lb and Ide are also plentiful and are also being caught shallow and close in.

Birch Pond

Our newest pond continues to give great sport with plenty of Carp to 3lb, Ide & Orfe with many catches up to 50lb. Pellets and corn remain the best baits but all methods and bait will work here.

Island Pond

Fishing nearly at it's very best now with Carp up to 8lb feeding strongly and catches over 50lb commonplace. Ide are also going well with some approaching 2lb. Paste, pellets and corn again are top baits for Carp but caster and worms are working well for big catches of Ide.

Top Pond

Re-stocking with thousands of new fish has led to some brilliant sport with some anglers catching hundreds of small Carp and Chub. They are learning fast though, so don't expect a bonanza every day. The fishing can still be fast and furious with pellets leading the way as best bait for Carp but worm is also working well for all species.

Railway Pond

The Railway Pond has also been re-stocked and is fishing really well for Carp, Ide, Orfe and some cracking Tench to over 7lb. As with the other ponds, pellets and corn are working well.
