1st Drew McCluskey
|
Monday Evening Open - Island Pond - 31 May
Another terrific match fitted a great turn out of 28 anglers and the
top weights came from very different styles and catches. Drew
fished positively for Carp with only pellets and reaped the reward for
his patience with a mainly Carp catch. Bobby fed 1.5 pints of
chopped worm and took a great, busy mixed catch with lots of Ide but not
quite enough to catch Drew.

Monday Evening Open - Island Pond - 24 May
Paul Joyce kept it tight by feeding his caster and worms only with a
pole pot for a good win in the latest Monday Open. He had a lovely mixed
catch with a large number of fish including Ide, Orfe, Carp and Tench.
John Callaghan had a similar catch for second as did Chris Paton in
third.
An average weight of 9lb 6oz between the 20 anglers shows just how
consistent the sport is and the frame weights were well spread around
the pond again. Barry Morgan's 4lb 1oz Ghost Carp was the biggest fish
of the night.
1st Paul Joyce 15lb 13oz
2nd John Callaghan 14lb 14oz
3rd Chris Paton 14lb 5 1/2oz
4th Colin Hart 11lb 5oz

1st Rab Crossan
|
Sunday Sweep - Main Loch - 23 May
Skimmers again made the winning weight but Rab had to work hard for
them and caught most of them 1ft off the bottom in a 9ft peg instead of
fishing shallow. Small carp on an inside line kept everyone else busy.
Though Frank Smith included a big Roach/Rudd hybrid in his catch he
couldn't quite catch Karl for second place

1st Sean Gibson
|
Friendly Junior Competition - Top Pond - 22
May
Another keenly contested match went right down to
the wire and in an exciting finish Sean pipped Dave by just 1 ounce.
Like most, Sean fished long pole close to the island feeding micro
pellet and catching on pellet and maggot to win his first Magiscroft
competition after being 2nd in the last two.
Dave fished very well too and kept a cool head to
overcome a problem with his broken float to push Sean all the way. With
an average weight of nearly 6lb these competitions are proving very
rewarding for the kids, as well as popular, since they can learn so much
so quickly by catching lot's of fish. Roll on Saturday 5th
June!

1st Stef Hunter
|
Monday Evening Open - Island Pond - 17
May
It was only a short matter of time before the Monday
Evening record was broken but the only surprise with Stef's catch was
that much of his weight was Ide not Carp. A busy evening saw Stef
pick up fish steadily for 3 hours. He loose fed caster for Ide
after feeding chopped worm then took Carp on pellet later on.
Frame weights were spread around the pond, which is a
good sign for warmer night than this, the average weight being around
9lb from 22 anglers. Darren had another busy catch for well deserved
second place.

Magiscroft Club Pairs - Main Loch - 16 May
Young Mark Lyons showed his ability and great potential with a good
performance to help Jim Hillhouse to win the friendly Magiscroft Club
pairs contest in a great match on the Main Loch.
Though the higher number pegs near the Island Pond were harder, the
average weight was still 7lb 6oz since the top weights were big and
included a new Main Loch match record of nearly 21lb. George drew peg 37
and loose fed pinkie at 11-13 metres to catch mainly skimmer Bream to
8oz with lots of Ide on maggot hookbait. A light, 4x10 float set 2
to 3 ft deep (in 10ft depth) was the best method and soft groundbait
helped bring back the fish when bites faded.

Monday Evening Open - Island Pond - 10
May
The 2004 Monday evening matches got off to a
super start with the average weight being over 8lb. Pre-match
hailstones, rain and plummeting temperatures put the carp off
a bit but the fishing was still excellent for mixed bags of
Ide, Orfe and Carp. John Callaghan targetted the Ide and
caught a great net of them fishing shallow at around 10 metres
feeding caster, maggot and pinkie. Brian Docherty was so close
with the best catch of carp and is rueing a lost 1 ½ lb carp.
1st John Callaghan 14lb 13oz

|
Friendly Junior Competition - Top Pond - 8
May
A great match with a very close finish between the top
4 and some super catches of small carp for a 3 hour match. David Anderson fished a
nice match to pip Sean into second by just 5oz. David fished
mainly pellet neatly on a long pole against the island and included some
nice F1 carp amongst the small commons.

1st Chris Paton
|
Sunday Sweep - Main Loch - 25 April
The Main Loch showed great signs of improvement with
the warmer weather and Chris took the spoils after a late charge with an
excellent 17lb 12oz almost entirely of Ide. Barry Morgan was
looking good for a win with a nice mixed catch including lots of skimmer
bream, but in the last 2 hours Chris attacked his peg with loose feed
maggot and started catching quality Ide shallow on the pole. He took the
vast majority of his catch in that last 2 hours for a clear win.
1st Chris Paton 17lb 12oz

Friendly Junior Competition - Top Pond - 24
April
A much better day than the last match and this one was
very close with everybody getting lots of bites. Andrew Rollinson fished
very well to win his second competition in a row with 5lb 1oz of mainly
small carp, 10z clear of Sean Gibson in second.

Sunday Sweep - Main Loch - 11 April
Bobby has worked hard to perfect a slider float method
with a fine topped float. On a day when many anglers missed lots of
bites, he converted his for a clear win. He took mainly skimmer
bream on pinkie and maggot baits.

Friendly Junior Competition - Top Pond - 10
April
12 kids made for a very competitive event and the
match went well, apart from the fish who refused to participate as much
as usual. All the more credit to Andrew Rollinson who eked out a
nice net of small carp and orfe on a hard day.

1st John Callaghan
|
Sunday Sweep - Main Loch - 4 April
Though falling temperature saw less fish than in the
last few days, this turned into a close and interesting match with lots
of bites for most competitors. John made the most of deep peg 19
to the left of the big tree and included enough small carp along with
ide and skimmers to take the spoils. He fished maggot in fishmeal
groundbait in an open ended swimfeeder.

1st Darren Ferguson |
A
nice mixed catch for Darren included a few slightly bigger
skimmers and carp taken all on the feeder with worm and maggot
hookbaits. That just edged out Barry who had around 60
fish, but mainly the smallest size common carp, again mainly
on the feeder.

Monklands Club - Main Loch - 21 March
Very few carp showed due to falling temperatures so
skimmer bream made up most of Bobby's winning weight. He fished
positively, only setting up the slider and picked off fish consistently
through the match on peg 21. As happened last week, the fish came
on later in the match and the venue fished well after the match hours.

Sunday Sweep - Main Loch - 14 March
The wind blew and the rain lashed making for some
uncomfortable fishing. The wind changing from east to south put
the fish off until later on but Barry picked away on tip and pole for a
clear win. He fished on after the match and the fish fed with a
vengeance giving a great pleasure catch ... Sod's law for the match!

Saturday Sweep - Main Loch - 6 March
The anglers who contested the first Saturday Sweep for
a long time enjoyed their day and this is likely to become a regular
event. The top four places almost needed a photo finish but Chris Hughes
did enough with a catch of small carp and skimmers. A three way tie for
second ensued between Paul, Karl and Gary.

Sunday Sweep - Main Loch - 22 February
Central Scotland clubmates dominated the frame in the
latest sweep and though weights were low it turned into a close contest
on the tip with the best pegs from 18 to 23. Paul Joyce just edged out
John Callaghan, Drew McCluskey and Stef Hunter, his catch including a
higher proportion of the small skimmer Bream that weigh slightly more
than the Roach and Ide.

Alex & Carp |
Cally in Action |
Though the day was cold the carp fed best in the
shallow pegs at the far end of the Island Pond. Cally took full
advantage with a great big catch of carp. Maggot then pellet baits
worked best for him while feeding loose fishmeal groundbait. Stef
Hunter fished a tidy match for only small fish but included a lot of
tench (some golden) in his colourful catch !

Sunday Sweep - Island Pond - 11 January
A wild and wintry day met the brave souls in a
impromptu sweep. With the rest struggling, Gary showed how it's
done with a super performance and an excellent net of 30+ carp on pellet

degrees) only a few micro pellets and the odd pinkie.

Fantastic numbers of small carp made up great weights
in Karl Altdorfer's Boxing Day sweep that is set to become a Magiscroft
tradition. Barry included more F1 carp in his catch to boost his weight to
a new Top Pond record with 18lb 15oz. The average weight was well
over 8lb but the fight for 2nd place was so tight, just going to Colin

in a close match between Tony and Gordon.
George collected top quality Pro-logic clothing along
with his prize money from Glasgow Angling Centre's Jim Brown.
Karl, Gordon and Tony received Pro-Logic Rod, Boots and Fleece prizes.
