All who took part agreed that this was a very special,
unique and enjoyable event. The innovative format was the first of it's
kind in Scotland and will set a precedent for more matches like this in
future. The event ran along continental lines and comprised
one 3 hour match, a break for some superb hot Italian food and wine,
then a re-draw before a second 2 ½ hour match followed by the prize
giving and more delicious Italian food and drinks.

Herbie's Taxis Friendly Junior Competition
Top Pond - Sat 17 July
We owe a great deal of thanks to Ralph Farrell of
Herbie's Taxis for very kindly sponsoring this event with great prizes
and providing prizes for other matches too. A great time was had by all,
especially first place Lorna Figures who won a super float rod.
Lorna is the first female to win any match at
Magiscroft and she fished so well we can expect much more from her in
future. Cupping fishmeal groundbait across to the Island Lorna took a
succession of small carp on pellet from a peg near the tree that was not
one of the best - a great display to hold off David in second place.

occasionally worm and took most of his carp on pellet from end peg
no.17. Barry was busy again on peg 9 to take second place with a mixed

Brian Clark came close with a great performance from peg 32 on the

when he picked up a few carp across.

catch being mainly taken on worm.

Monklands Open - Main Loch - 27 June
A very strong field of 38 contested the first big match of the coming
months and Brian showed his class on peg 15 to edge out Stef and
Paul. Brian took mainly Ide with some Skimmers and Carp mainly
shallow feeding maggot and pinkie on a long pole line.
Cool rain over the previous days days pushed fish down generally
deeper than recently. This enabled Stef to catch fair number of
fish on the feeder from his peg on the far side after catching well on
the pole to start with.

Monday Evening Open - Island Pond - 21 June
Darren smashed the Magiscroft match record in an amazing 3 hours with
a fantastic catch on peg 6. He fed caster and chopped worm on a short
pole line and took mainly Ide with double caster or worm on the hook. A
great performance, but how long before this record goes?
Paul had a great catch next peg to Darren that would have won
most matches. Magiscroft match weights just get better and better and
with the average weight being 11lb 8oz the Monday Opens are great fun as
well as very competitive.

Barras Fruit Co. Pleasure Open - Island Pond - Sun
20 June
James Woodrow made his first match win a special one with a great
performance to take the 2004 Barras Open. 'Woodrow' has learned a lot by
coming through the Top Pond Junior Match ranks and into the Magiscroft
Junior team. When he drew in a decent area on peg 8 great things were
expected of him and he didn't disappoint with a steady stream of Ide and
Orfe taken on caster for a clear win with just under 18lb.
Stephen Hamilton led the pack with a nice nixed bag for 2nd
place clear of Godfrey then 'Scoob', Lewis and Mike close behind.
From the excitement at the draw (using tangerines as draw cards!),
through the tension of the competition, a nail biting weigh-in, to the
excellent presentation buffet, everyone had a great time. It is
definitely the friendliest match around! Thanks to all who took
part and especially Derek Brady of the Barras Fruit Co. for his
very generous sponsorship.

loose fed caster towards the far bank and took most of his fish on the
drop with a light rig and caster hookbait. Dougie fished

caster on a short pole line and took a huge number of fish, mostly on
single caster on the drop and off the bottom.
In contrast Mark took a higher proportion of bigger fish in his 2nd

David is proving hard to beat on Saturday mornings and he showed his
ability by picking out bigger carp from a shallow peg, mainly taken on
maggot. Andrew MacLeod won the race to the first fish. Well done to the
12 juniors taking part .. they are all catching well and learning a
great deal.
