All who took part agreed that this was a very special, unique and enjoyable event. The innovative format was the first of it's kind in Scotland and will set a precedent for more matches like this in future.  The event ran along continental lines and comprised one 3 hour match, a break for some superb hot Italian food and wine, then a re-draw before a second 2 ½ hour match followed by the prize giving and more delicious Italian food and drinks.

Herbie's Taxis Friendly Junior Competition
Top Pond - Sat 17 July

We owe a great deal of thanks to Ralph Farrell of Herbie's Taxis for very kindly sponsoring this event with great prizes and providing prizes for other matches too. A great time was had by all, especially first place Lorna Figures who won a super float rod.

Lorna is the first female to win any match at Magiscroft and she fished so well we can expect much more from her in future. Cupping fishmeal groundbait across to the Island Lorna took a succession of small carp on pellet from a peg near the tree that was not one of the best - a great display to hold off David in second place.

Barras Fruit Co. Pleasure Open - Island Pond - Sun 20 June

James Woodrow made his first match win a special one with a great performance to take the 2004 Barras Open. 'Woodrow' has learned a lot by coming through the Top Pond Junior Match ranks and into the Magiscroft Junior team. When he drew in a decent area on peg 8 great things were expected of him and he didn't disappoint with a steady stream of Ide and Orfe taken on caster for a clear win with just under 18lb.

Stephen Hamilton led the pack with a nice nixed bag for 2nd place clear of Godfrey then 'Scoob', Lewis and Mike close behind.

From the excitement at the draw (using tangerines as draw cards!), through the tension of the competition, a nail biting weigh-in, to the excellent presentation buffet, everyone had a great time.  It is definitely the friendliest match around!  Thanks to all who took part and especially Derek Brady of the Barras Fruit Co. for his very generous sponsorship.

The best ever Monday Evening match saw an average weight of well over 11lb with a great variety of catches. Barry had a very impressive catch of mainly Ide and Orfe on peg 19 for a well earned win. In contrast Mark took a higher proportion of bigger fish in his 2nd placed net including Carp and big Ide from peg 2.  Derek Brady had the biggest fish of the night with a 4lb 6oz Tench that took him a timed 43 minutes to land on a no.4 elastic !
