An exciting finish and weigh-in to the 2005 Access Open saw Stephen 'Stef' Hunter take the £459 first prize with 27lb 10 oz , just edging Davie Corcoran into 2nd by the weight of one fish. Nice weather made for a great day and from the excitement at the draw to the excellent presentation buffet, everyone had a memorable time. It was very good match with most areas of the Island Pond and Main Loch producing plenty of fish. Stef made the early running catching Ide and occasional Carp steadily from the off on peg 10 on the Island Pond which looked to be an excellent draw. He fished worm and caster like most on the Island pond and seemed to be well ahead of the field until the last two hours when Davie and Mark Lyons started to up the pace and come back at him. Davie came closest with a great late burst of Ide on peg 24 but he was just short at the weigh-in. There was a special sponsor's prize of £100 for the winner of the Main Loch and, after a slow start on peg 50, 17 year old Mark staked his claim with a string of carp in the last hour. Combined with his section and 3rd place prizes Mark walked away with a cool £270.
The ACCESS Open continues to establish itself as Scotland's premier open match thanks to sponsors ACCESS Loans and Mortgages , with a new superb permanent trophy, tremendous cash prizes and great catches. Lawrence Ihle of ACCESS is delighted to support the angling community and Magiscroft. We were honoured to have Harry Crockard of ACCESS present the prizes and of course the 'BIG cheque'. Thanks to everyone else who helped make the day so successful and enjoyable, especially Frieda for the excellent hot buffet and drinks. Congratulations to Stef, also to the other winners, and roll on next year!
