Match Report:

Nine anglers turned out to fish the match on the Island Pond. It was a strange day weather-wise. The Temps overnight had been 10 degrees and suddenly at 9 am they dropped to 6 degrees with a clear sunny sky overhead. The winds were gusting in both directions but manageable. There was no sign of rain. The low sun caused sighting problems at times for the anglers on Pegs 4 to 12.

The match was fished from 11 am till 4 pm and was proper Winter fishing, fishing real hard. Bites were hard to come by and some anglers didn't have any. It was the low numbers that fished better. The Top Bend 28 and 30 + 2 was left out and in hindsight probably an error as the fish were topping in those areas.

Tommy was first to catch after Midday a small 2oz Chub. Geoff Lowe persisted fishing for Carp and was rewarded with a 3Lb Carp around the 3-hour mark. Tommy having fed very small balls of ground bait on his lines had to up sticks and start again. This worked and just dribbling in the odd maggot over chopped maggot brought about bites till the end. It was perch to start with then some Roach and Chub then two Skimmers. He weighed in 2Lbs-7ozs for a second place.

Geoff still on the Carp caught a 5Lb Carp and it was good night Vienna for all other anglers in the competition. Geoff weighed 8Lbs-5ozs for an easy Victory. That was all from a Peg he argued should not be pegged in the match. Good job Ronnie didn't listen to him.

In third place was Bryan Hewitt who also worked out how to get bites on a hard day. Bryan weighed 1Lb-7ozs.

Well done to all the framers and to all who sat it out.

Wednesday's match will be on the Top Pond. There will be no requirement to feed it as Bill Bright put enough feed in last Wednesday to cover the full winter season.

Dougie Campbell's Quips on the Match.

'I won my Section'
'If I caught more fish I would have beaten you, Tommy'
'The Tip was the way to go my section win confirmed this to me'
'Is there anything for a 4th place'
'Make sure you give me a mention Tommy on the power of the Tip.'

You are never short of a laugh fishing when Dougie is in the field. Crap jokes from the off and great banter throughout.

A thread for Wednesday will be posted soon.

Tommy Lauriston.

Tommy is quite right. before the draw I said to Ronnie that pegs 1-6 had fished really poorly over the past couple of weeks and should be left out. He put them in and I drew 4 and Tommy was my neighbour on 6.
I cursed the draw gods and I don't think Tommy was too pleased either.
What the hell do I know eh!
Pegs 4 & 6 finished first and second!
Think I will keep my gob shut in future and just let Ronnie get on with it.
Got the will - ain't got the skill

We are now taking a half bag of micros for the full Winter period Bill. 6 to 8 every put in. Get onto your informant and establish how many micros are in a bag. :rock :rock Fishing in such a format you require to be busy and put in at least every 5 mins. Not a lazy man's way of fishing. Was going to say throw away the other half of the bag at the end of the Winter. I then remembered Douglas fishes with us and he may purchase 100 micros from you every time he fishes. :bleh :bleh
