Match Report:

Winter Fishing has kicked in Big Time. The Temp though good for Mid November has stunned the silverfish from feeding until they get used to the colder waters and has caused the carp to ball up. All knew what they were in for on their arrival in the morning. Eleven brave soles turned out and that was reduced to Ten as Frank opted to fish the Top Pond. The match was double pegged. Low Numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. High Numbers 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28. It was fished from 10-45 am till 3-45 pm. It was mostly flat calm which didn't help as the water was very clear. Clear skies up above meant that all the anglers on the low numbers would struggle for the first 3 hours being blinded by the sun reflecting up from the water.

Geoff Lowe fishing Peg 22 the peg that all wanted to draw started catching from the all-in and put 40+ Carp in his net most being stockies. He did have 4 Carp over the 1Lb mark. Geoff had enough fish in his net in the first hour to win the match and by the end enough to beat all the other anglers combined. A great day out for Geoff and Winter fishing producing runaway winners. That said if you have the fishing bug it is better to be out taking part in the sport that you love. Bad days are easy to forget for the enthusiast and days like Geoff had easy to remember and a Winter Fishing bonus. You either like it or hibernate. Individuals choice.

In second place was Tommy Lauriston. During the setup time, he decided to change a top kit to a single 3 elastic. This move paid off well when for the second week running he reversed a carp in backwards having hooked it by the tail. Moving about searching the bottom of the slope on the far shelf produced a further stockie Carp, a skimmer bream, a roach and a perch to weigh in 3Lbs exact.

In third place was Ian Sloss who had two carp from the Peg 28 margin in the first 35 mins. His start dwindled as he only added one more fish in the remainder of the match to weigh 2Lbs-8ozs.

Now Dougie Campbell what can we say this week. Not one bite from Peg 20 which he ran to. Dougie took time off from finding the worst jokes on the planet this week to practice drawing. He informed all that he would get Peg 22. This week's Tip to Dougie is drawing quicker as Geoff Lowe had nipped into the Draw Bag with his Left Hand and produced peg 22 before Dougie got to it. Learning points Dougie, draw earlier + know the water, drawing Peg 20 which you did when Peg 24 was still in the bag a far better option. Again a great attitude and always give us all a good laugh with your match debrief.

Well done to the framers as we fish our way towards April.

Wednesdays Match will be on the Top Pond.

Tommy Lauriston.
