Match Report:

Six anglers turned out to fish today's match on the Top Pond. We are only 3 weeks from the shortest day so we arrive in the dark and go home in the dark. Winter fishing. The match was fished from 10-30am till 3-30pm to retain failing light for the weigh-in. Next week we probably require to have a 9-15am draw and 10-15am all in which should be the hours for the remainder of the year if we manage to get fishing. If we get real cold weather we can look at reducing the length of the match.

The weather today was tropical to those who fished on Thursday. Just the odd spot of rain till the last 30 mins of the match and no winds of note. The temps overnight didn't stop the fish from feeding which they started doing an hour into the match.

Tommy drew Peg number 11 once more which he was unhappy about as he ended up last on it on Thursday. Fish are fish and very unpredictable. On Wednesday there were no big Carp in the vicinity of Peg 11 that Tommy could catch. Today was different. Tommy was fishing to attempt to stop coming last for 4 matches in a row. Tommy started fishing right over in an attempt to catch the Ide that was showing near the surface. This ended up with just 1 Ide in the first hour with all others failing to get many bites.

After an Hour a change to the right margin brought two carp around the 1Lb mark to the net. That gave Tommy the lead. Dougie hadn't had a bite on his trusty tip rod. Schoolboy error today by him as he didn't set up his pole. Geoff had had a few silverfish and Bryan a few Ide and roach. On the two hour mark, a further 4Lb Carp for Tommy and Geoff then began to fight back with a 3Lb+ carp.

Frank and Bill were struggling and it was obvious that the Carp had moved their residence from the back straight to the pegs 9 to 11 area. Tommy was introducing very little bait to the water and by the halfway mark had taken his catch to 10Lbs. A toilet break and roll on sausage were required. Some bait put in until Tommy's return.

On Tommy's return, nothing much had changed. Geoff hadn't caught any further fish and Dougie was still biteless. Tommy learned that the adding of the bait before his break was an error and it took him a further 30 mins to get the carp going once more. At the 3 hour mark, Dougie's tip rod went wound and he was off and running and it would go round a further 3 times prior to the end of the match.

Geoff had a bad second half to his match and couldn't respond to Dougie's onslaught. Tommy, on the other hand, had removed the pole pot from his top kit so he couldn't introduce any further bait to his two swims. It was a case to wait and strike at the least movement in the dotted float. Tommy caught well in the final 30 mins to take his weight in the keepnet to 22Lbs-12ozs for an easy win.

Dougie fished himself into second place with 9Lbs-6ozs and Geoff Lowe managed to hang onto 3rd place with a few silvers adding to his weight. Bryan had a great net of silvers for his 4Lbs-8ozs. Bill managed a fish for 1Lb-12ozs. Frank has had better days.

Winter fishing, all down to where the fish want to be, they decide. Well done to all for turning out in order that we get to continue with our fishing. Well done to the framers.

The Midweek match looks like being on the Top Pond on Wednesday as it is the best day weather-wise at this stage. Keep an eye on the forum. There will be an Open match next Sunday, again keep an eye on the forum.

Photographs Pending.
